How to Recover or get your Stolen Mobile Phone Back?
How many of us have lost our mobile phones at least once in our lifetime? I have actually had my mobile phone stolen once but wasn’t able to recover it. Not only did I lose an expensive phone but also all my invaluable contacts along with it. So it was not just a financial loss but a real pain in the you know what! But a friend of mine was more lucky when faced with an identical situation. He recently lost his mobile phone at a mamak stall in KL but managed to recover it within 48 hours. So how exactly did he do it?
Well the truth is this method will not work with all phones. Samsung has this neat feature in their mobile phones called Mobile Tracker which saved the day for him. So what is Mobile Tracker? In all new Samsung phones you will be able to access a special feature called Mobile Tracker which lets you enter two pre defined numbers. So what are these numbers for? Let’s say your phone gets stolen and the person who stole it or found it decides to keep it for himself. But the moment he removes your SIM card and inserts his SIM card, the phone sends a text message via SMS to the two pre defined numbers without his knowledge. The receiver of the text message is able to know the mobile phone number from which the message has been sent. Its just a matter of tracking down the person and recovering your phone now!
This is exactly what happened to my friend. Since he was using a Samsung SGH F480, he had actually entered the mobile numbers of his mom and girlfriend in the phone. Needless to say, when the phone was “found” by someone else it sent a message to these pre defined numbers as soon as the SIM was inserted. My friend was immediately notified and he gave the person a call and demanded the phone back. Although initially the guy refused, he agreed to return the phone back when he was threatened with a police report. Technology certainly saved the day!
Although such features seem trivial while selecting a mobile phone to buy, I believe that these are great value added features. Such a feature can definitely protect something as valuable as your mobile phone which by no means sells for a meager amount anymore. It would be great if other phone manufacturers (read Apple) could take a cue from Samsung to provide such a service as well. Until then we can safely say that a Samsung phone is definitely well protected by technology!
