Know when to increase RAM in Computer
You must be having a PC or Laptop and all is going great, the PC is performing really well and then you just installed photo editing software like Photoshop, some heavy graphics game like Burnout, started downloading some data from the web and even looking to browse some website with high graphics and then you found that your computer was unable to keep up with all these tasks.
The Hard drive light isn’t even resting and is continuously on, then its time to Increase RAM in Your Computer. But instead of going to the vendor to get the RAM installed, how about getting RAM installed yourself and save some money.
Determine RAM in your Computer
Determining the amount of RAM in your computer is necessary, as only then you can estimate how much more RAM does your system requires.
To see how much RAM is in your PC, go to the Start menu, click Settings, and then click Control Panel. Click System and then select the General tab. At the bottom of the page you should see the amount of RAM.

RAM information in Computer
Well I recently purchased a DELL INSPIRON 1525 with 3GB DDR2 RAM and till date I don’t feel I need more memory. The screenshot is shown above.
There are many companies offering different modules of RAMs from 128MB to 2GB for commercial use. Higher memory RAMs are also available but are not used that much in home Computers. You just need to analyze your tasks and calculate the amount of RAM you will be requiring.
Install your new RAM
- Turn off the computer and touch the metal casing.
- Locate the RAM modules. Find the empty one you plan to replace, or remove the RAM module you will replace.
- Line up the notches of the new RAM module and apply firm pressure to attach.
- Once you’re sure the RAM module is snugly in place, close the latch at either end. If you have clips, they should snap back in place.
- Reconnect all the cables, but leave the casing open until you’re sure everything is working right.
- Turn your computer back on. If the machine starts to beep, the memory is either incompatible or not in correctly, says Ritchie. If you’ve installed everything correctly, the system will detect the new RAM.
- Check the system properties to see how much RAM you now have. If you replaced a 128 MB with a 512 MB module, then you should have 512 minus 128 equals 384 MB more RAM than you did previously. If you added the RAM but didn’t remove any, then you’d have 512 MB more RAM.
- Try one of your programs that wasn’t working up to speed. If it still isn’t working, unplug everything again and get back into the computer to check that the RAM modules are firmly secured.
