blackle_imageFor all who are unfamiliar with “BLACKLE“, its a search engine with Google Custom Search and with a Black Background. The purpose of creating Blackle was to save energy that is consumed during the display on a CRT or LCD screen.

There was a blog post according to which Google could save 750.0 megawatt-hours of energy every year by utilizing display options. Another study said that dark colors consume less energy when they are displayed on the screen. Blackle’s homepage provides a count of the number of megawatt-hours that are supposed to have been saved by using this whole concept. 1,341,291.479 is the number of watt hours being saved till the time of this post.
