How to Make Your Computer Boot and Run Faster
In this modern world of technology, we would like our Computers and Laptops to get started within few seconds of pressing the power button but unfortunately this isn’t the case. We just need to wait for quiet a longer period for a computer to get started and this seems irritating.
Well if we assume that the newer Operating systems will reduce the time taken by the PC to boot, then you may need to thing again as Windows Vista takes much more time then the previous version of Windows: Windows XP. But not to worry, you can definitely switch over to the newer Operating Systems as Microsoft claims that its next Operating System Windows 7 would take less time to Boot.
The performance and speed of the computer usually decreases to some amount with computer’s age, and due to this purpose the boot time also increases. As you install more programs, more the time your PC will take to boot. So the basic and foremost solution is to un-install or remove the unused programs.
Many of these seemingly fallow programs are running active background processes that launch every time you push the power button. This doesn’t just slow down your startup, it chews up RAM and drags down the overall performance of your PC.
To get a full list of installed software, check Control Panel in Vista and select Remove Programs (in XP go to Add/Remove Programs). If you find programs that you’re not using or that support equipment you no longer own, eliminate them.
One of our test computers, a 3-year-old XP machine, had more than two dozen programs that hadn’t been used in years. After we removed them, the machine’s boot time was reduced from 2 minutes 45 seconds to 2 minutes 21 seconds. Across all three of our computers, the biggest offender was AIM instant-messaging software. Removing it shaved an average of 8 seconds off boot time.
