3G service launched in Delhi by MTNL
Finally 3G service is here in India as MTNL launched this service in Delhi on Thursday.
3G is the third generation of tele standards and technology for mobile networking.3G networks enable network operators to offer users a wider range of more advanced services while achieving greater network capacity through improved spectral efficiency. Services include wide-area wireless voice telephony, video calls, and broadband wireless data, all in a mobile environment.
MTNL plans to offer the high-speed data mobile phone service free to its high-spending mobile customers initially for a period of two months on a trial basis, according to media reports. Ushering in a new era in the Indian telecom sector, state-run Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Ltd (MTNL) on Thursday launched the magical third generation (3G) mobile service.
Live TV, high speed data download and video streaming on mobile phone
today became a reality in India.
The service was inaugurated by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh by receiving a video call from Telecom Minister A Raja, who was also present at the function. Expressing concern over slow pace of broadband growth, Singh said: “I believe that 3G and Broadband Wireless Access will give a fillip to mobile broadband penetration.”
“So far, India’s success in extending broadband has not been satisfactory. These services were launched in January 2005 and till now we have managed a very modest penetration. I expect that 3G will become the predominant platform on which we will be able to build and deliver upon India’s broadband objectives.”
While MTNL has rolled out its 3G services only in Delhi, it will launch this service in Mumbai and BSNL will launch its services in Chennai next month.
