iPhone Unlocking and iPhone Jailbreaking Difference

Posted by max On July - 30 - 2009 1 COMMENT

iphone_scriPhone is the world’s largest selling mobile phone and everyone wants to have one but there is a problem with the Apple iPhone. iPhone is by default locked by the service provider, so iPhone needs to be unlocked to be used with any other service provider.

There are two terms “Unlocking” and “Jailbreaking” and many people don’t really know the difference between them. Unlocking an iPhone means you can run any carrier or use any SIM card with that iPhone and Jailbreaking an iPhone makes you add ringtones, change wallpapers or run some third party applications on the iPhone.

Jailbreaking

iPhone OS uses two partitions – first on is the media partition and second one is the operating system partition. Music, movies, contacts, App Store apps etc. are stored on the media partition. This partition is usually the size of your iPhone’s memory capacity, minus 500-600MB for the OS partition. Because of the way that Apple have set up the iPhone OS, we can not do any hacking in this easily accessible partition. To hack the device, we must get into the OS partition. The OS partition, the space on the iPhone that Apple has locked us out of, is where the jailbreak lies.

Jailbreaking is a process that allows iPhone and iPod Touch users to run unofficial code on their devices. Once you jailbreaked your iPhone you are able to download many applications, mods and hacks which are unavailable through the App Store but available via unofficial installers such as Cydia and Icy. Some of popular Cydia, Icy advantages are as on >> Winterboard (To install Themes), SBSettings (Faster Method to Manage iPhone Settings), Tricker3G (For running WiFi only App on 3G or EDGE), Cycorder (Video Recorder for iPhone 2G, 3G) and lots more.

iPhone Unlocking and Jailbreaking

Unlocking

Unlocking your device means to open up the iPhone’s modem to accept SIM cards from unofficial carriers. For example In the US, iPhone will not connect to any carrier other than AT&T, unless it is unlocked. Should you want to use your iPhone with another GSM carrier, you need to unlock. Just as iPhone OS controls the applications that you interact with whenever you use your phone, the baseband processor controls the modem.

The baseband processor has its own, separate firmware from the main OS, called the baseband firmware. During most iPhone software updates, Apple update the baseband firmware on the device. The unlock lies in the baseband firmware, by patching out certain bytes, you can bypass the SIM check. For some devices, updated basebands can mean the inability to software unlock your phone.

This new concept washing machine uses “Plastic” for washing instead of water.

This process uses 90% less water and very less amount of detergent, and this “Virtually Waterless” washes uses reusable small nylon bead to trap the dirt and make your clothes clean. These beads act like water, tumbling alongside clothes,  and they can be used over 100 times.

As it uses very less water, so very less energy is used up in drying clothes, making it an environment friendly product. This device saves almost 30% energy as compared to traditional washers.

This washer is made for commercial purpose and is expected to reach homes soon after it gets the approval and license to be used.

Eric Giler, chief executive of US firm Witricity, said almost 40 billion disposable batteries are built every year and even more amount is being invested in building wiring infrastructure. And he charged a Google G1 phone and an Apple iPhone using this wireless system.

Witricity: Wireless Power

Witricity: Wireless Power

This system uses “Resonance” and electro-magnetic waves to transfer power in wireless manner. Witricity uses low frequency electromagnetic waves and there are two coils, one in plugged into the mains and the other is embedded or attached to the gadget which needs to be charged.

All the devices within the range of coil can be charged with wireless power and this field is harmless as the waves are basically magnetic in nature. Witricity uses small frequency waves, this means waves of large wavelength (30m), and this can be used to charge laptops, mobile phones and even electric cars.
